Nice photos. There are a few upstream in my neck of the woods too (north side of Lake Ontario). And the clowns with the three-prongs have already been working them over for two weeks.

Salmon season ...... sigh.

It's too bad they attract the cave man segment, because they can be fin to catch in the right circumstances.

Hey Craig...
I agree...Kings can be fun under the right circumstances. However...It can be quite the spectators sport just watching the madness from the bank. My highlight this weekend was watching a guide in his $30,000 rig violently set the hook on every drift on what must have been a very large pod of absolutely starving kings. LOL! He then preceeded to start up the 200HP jet and chase the fish down stream through everyone elses drifts. Started to lose it's humor about the 5th fish in 10 mins. LOL! Man Kings can sure get some air after being hooked in the hinney! OUCH!
I have mixed feelings on the entire episode. I know times are tough over there and happy clients tip better and tend to be return customers but the ethical sportsman side of me really questions the experience these people get. But who am I kidding...these people are probably once or twice a year fishermen and are happier than heck just getting to land a fish be it in the a$$ or mouth. The beasts are gonna die anyways and honestly...There really is a rediculous amount of them over there still. :0/
The kings are bigger this year and the Alewife's were washing up on the beaches again this summer. The DNR cut back on the stocking to rebound the Alewife stocks and the washups and fat returning Kings are testament that their approach worked. Hmmmm a governing body actually working. Weird...

Had an offer to go to the Betsie and I said "thanks but no thanks" Salmon in the lake are great, but in the river that's another story. I did one trip on the Salmon River in New York and that was the last trip for me. It was a floss fest and outside of the fly zone it was a war zone.

A couple more weeks and some of the steelies should be showing up in PA

Yep...I hear ya Greg! The economics of Salmon far out weigh good old fashioned ethics. These fish bring huge money to impoverished areas Spring, Summer, and more dreadfully...The Fall.
On the flip side...NY has the Dirty Burt and it's a freak show all the time.
Big fish bring out the worst in people.
