The onslaught of winter...

Well the onslaught of winter has taken hold of my spirits and rendered me to a life of e-fishing from my notebook. I first must apologize for my recent absence. I have had to step away from my piscatorial passions for a bit and give my personal life some much needed attention.

Since my last post I have liberated myself of a questionable collectors piece and am in the midst of procuring a replacement or two.

As life is constantly filled with irony I have a bit of a conundrum to resolve. I was lucky enough to get 3 separate emails over the last week with offers of fine reels to purchase. I am not sure which one or two I will procure but thought it would make a good mid-January post.

I welcome feedback and opinions on which one or two of the three you all would consider :-)

First Reel is an Ang Spec Offset in mint condition

Second is an Adcock Stanton to be imported from Wales in fair to mint condition with original packaging and documentation purchased from Walkers of Trowell in Nottingham.

Third is an original finish MykissII in mint condition presently residing in British Columbia. (this pic is of G's MykissII)

I have an idea... pause you're gear fetish for a moment and do what you're cellular imprint calls for: fish! I'm on a small Erie Trib tomorrow (fingers crossed). On the Oak Wed (for sure).

Personal opinion ?

The Stanton sans handles, then the Ang Spec, then the Mykiss.

Given the pic of the Stanton & sans handles, plus it has already withstood the atypical 20-25yr "classic" status it is desirable.

The Ang Spec's in general always hold their value, so it's at the very least a "break even" venture

The Mykiss ? well... persoanlly i have no love loss for the Reel. Also i believe it's "Internet Hype" is far beyond the 'Pins actualy desirability from a "collectors piece" stand-point at this time. It has not withstood the time-test yet... Maybe in time it and/or the Hanson will achieve that kind of status (??)

Having said that, a "collectible/collection" really has no set boundries in this venue. While there are pieces that "should be in a collection" it's not entirely etched in stone. So for now it's up to the Coleector to determine what they feel is worth having IMO

First...
Dejon, I have to thank you. I have been living vicariously thru your blog entries as of late. You are my hero right now having had the ability to fish right thru to current date with future dates planned. Thanks for keepin your blog active. Love the pics. I would be interested in an email on your success at the Oak this week if you don't mind. :0)

Secondly...
Steve, I agree with your statements. I am going to acquire the stanton for certain. Kind of a "meant to be" scenerio. It sure is a brilliant looker and I started out with an LG Custom so it will pair up nicely with my black 5" Stanton. The Mykiss or the Ang Spec...Fate will determine which if any are acquired.

Thirdly...Can I say thirdly...hmmmmm oh well. Norland if I gave them to you they would end up being dropped, dragged, kicked, kneeled upon, thrown, scratched, feces encusted and somewhat abused. What can I say...your hard on your gear.
As for the 70 hrs...Buck up old man the only way your gonna get ahead is to stick it to the man with OT ;0)

So you too, are starting out with the same inhibitions (sp??) as I did... To reclaim a piece of Centrepinning history (your own).

The biggest mistake I have ever made in terms of my fishing gear was to sell my first pin. A year or so later I managed to track down the buyer in England but he informed me that the reel had since left his hands.

I guess the only greater mistake I could make now would be to to lend G one of my pins :-/

Ha...trying to buy back your soul eh Morin?
Can't be done.....can only move forward.
:o/
..I certainly can't be accused of worshipping my gear. Not much survives more than a few seasons with me....that includes everything from eyewear to fishing partners...

Although I do put 100% blame on you for my O.C.S.D.

The mykiss for the money, I have all three I don't need drag on a float reel. The stanton has a plastic foot and I have seen and made new feet for ones that broke off of fiends reels. Mykiss is well made, good dia and a nice reel to fish.
