We left our comfort zone today. Intentionally...but reluctantly...
Nothing ventured nothing gained they say, well today was certainly a nothing gained scenario.
We hit the Muskegon up high this morning. We launched at Croton hoping there would be a fair amount of fish throughout the system. Well, we were wrong or just completely useless... we managed to put up a giant blanco. There were plenty of shaker rainbows and one very nice brown lost at the boat but no signs of Steel. The weather was amazing and a welcome change from the day prior but we could not put anything together. Two days in a row...hmmmmmm paying it forward I hope :0.
Simple logic would have put us down low on the system. The local guides seem to be putting some decent numbers together down there but our problems is covering water. The Hyde works well on the drift boat scene but when it comes to covering miles of river it is not the toy of choice. We worked with what we had and came up short. If we never tried we would have not known. A noble statement in itself but it still stings a bit. We knew going in it would be epic or a bust but nonetheless it doesn't negate the taste of failure. To add insult to injury we read Stuhans blog when we got back to the cabin...The fish were literally biting bare hooks down low today...Of course they were... Tomorrow is day three for me on the West side. I hope to lick my wounds and come up shining. Stay tuned...
